Here at the
Purple Monkey Collective we've grown
tired of politicians using lies and half-truths to promote an idea or viewpoint seemingly without
challenge. This, we believe, needs to stop and the politicians need to be called out on this
behaviour. This site is starting point to allow us to address this.
This site (well, the concept it represents) is intended to provide a check
on the words and utterances made by politicians of all camps around the UK with a view to
help the general populace identify who is trustworthy and who is not.
We'd like to think of this site as a fact checking 'service' of sorts which
can help sit alongside the professionals such as
Full Fact,
and hopefully providing a slightly different, but still objective, view of the political
landscape and the discourse occurring within it.
Conceptually, think of this site as providing league tables for politicians,
where they can move up and down by telling truths and lies. We plan to provide analysis
across different slices, with the intention that scores are provided to rank the lies and
untruths to help move the dials.
We are still in the early stages of this concept, so we're not sure how
it will operate specifically, but we are going to start with a simple approach to start with
and build it up from there. Initially this is going to be a manual crowd sourced
effort rather than any kind of automated effort. Specifically fill out our web form below to
send us the detail of their untruth or honesty and we will process it.
We can forsee a number of difficulties with what we are trying to do longer
term, so we're under no illusion that it’s going to be difficult to manage this properly due
to non-objective truths, but we will find our way round those as we go.
We sincerely hope you will come with us on this journey!
